W pierwszej dziesiątce 100 najlepszych filmów XXI wieku znalazły się m.in. "Mulholland Drive" Davida Lyncha, "Spirited Away: W krainie bogów" Hayao Miyazakiego oraz "Boyhood" Richarda Linklatera. Na 55. miejscu znalazła się nagrodzona Oscarem polska "Ida" Pawła Pawlikowskiego. Zestawienie przygotowane przez 177 krytyków filmowych na zlecenie BBC Culture stało się hitem internetu.
Krytycy filmowi wybrali 100 najlepszych filmów, które można było zobaczyć w kinie od 2000 roku do dziś. Wybór nie był łatwy. Choć coraz częściej słyszymy wieści o zmierzchu kina ambitnego i z polotem, czołowe miejsca w box office zajmują średniej jakości komedie i horrory, a popularność video on demand rośnie, trudno się nie zgodzić, że w XXI wieku powstały filmy, które staną się klasykami gatunku.
